Art Society Donation
The art, design and technology department would like to express their gratitude to The Sparkenhoe Arts Society (our local branch of the national Arts Society) for their incredibly generous donation of £1000. The ADT department will be using these funds to equip their burgeoning letter press printing endeavours. They have already produced a range of unique ‘thank-you’ post-cards which were sent out to a select range of students in recognition of their sterling efforts and hard work in the subject. This equipment will allow our key stage 4 students undertaking art, design and technology subjects to experience first-hand the printing methods and techniques of our past.
Anyone interested in dipping their toe into the world of the arts will find a warm welcome and a glass of wine on the first Monday of each month (excluding January and August). The admission cost to guests is £5 and is free to students in full time education. The Sparkenhoe Arts Society meet just over the road from TMBS at the Dixie Grammar School at 7.30 in the evenings. The society hosts a diverse range of expert speakers on all aspects of the arts, from architecture to textiles, theatre and the decorative and fine arts.
The society’s next meeting will take place on the 11th March, 7.30pm at The Dixie Grammar School. Lucia Gahlin, an Egyptologist and research associate at UCL’s institute of archaeology will be delivering a lecture on Ancient Egyptian Treasures in the Ashmolean Museum. The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford houses one of the finest collections of Egyptian antiquities in the UK. The lecture explores a wealth of ancient material, examining highlights of the collection from the Predynastic period through to the Roman Period.
You can find out more about the society on their website at www.sparkenhoearts.co.uk We all look forward to seeing you there.
