Success at Key Stage 4
Each September, we welcome Year 10 students and their parents to introduce them to GCSE study and discuss some key areas to ensure their continued success as they study with us at Key Stage Four.
We appreciate that GCSEs can be an overwhelming time, not just for students, but for parents as well as you try to support them in an ever-changing landscape of coursework and examinations. The aim of this evening is to help students, and parents and carers, learn useful, research-led strategies to help improve memory and retention (and, therefore, long term learning) as they embark on the most academically-complex stage of their education so far. We hope to empower families to be able to discuss learning confidently and have a shared understanding of how best to approach what can be a daunting time in children's school lives.
The information shared at the evening can be found here, and includes:
A Subject Overview booklet, comprising: a calendar overview of topics to help you understand the construction of each course, and links to key assessments including mock examinations; information on each of the exam boards and subject specifications studied across the school; signposting to useful revision resources, websites and apps to support wider learning; careers education information
A Success at Key Stage 4 presentation which includes key information on helping parents navigate some of the terminology they'll hear around exams and performance and a range of evidence-based revision and metacognitive thinking strategies to support students in their revision at home.
